Surrounded by mature Oak, Cedar and fruiting citrus trees, the designer purchased this home back in 2016, which offered endless possibilities for family living. The entire kitchen, all flooring, most of the windows and all interior doors were removed to make way for the new structure. There was a bold existing diagonal plot plan we were required to work with which forced some very creative solutions. A modern farmhouse seating area makes use of a textured rug and open shelving.
Design Inspiration
The kitchen was moved to the back of the house and has large windows open to the backyard. The ceiling in the front den was vaulted while walls of bookshelves were added, extending to the ceiling. The only place that there seems to be adequate lighting inside the house is the hallway. For continuity, with soaring ceilings and beams and hardwood flooring throughout, this NEW master bedroom feels as if it was part of the original home. New shutters mimic the existing ones in the family room, and we carried the natural organic linen touches throughout in the same neutral tones. We knocked down a few walls, built a few new ones; added square footage, storage, and completely opened up the kitchen, dining, and family room space; and a brand new powder room, mud room, and a master suite sanctuary.
A Farmhouse of Epic Proportions

"This room has the contrast of the dark cabinetry with the linear wooden treatment behind the floating shelves and welcoming warmth of the leather chairs," Williams says.
